When you Were Away

For every night
I was a goner
Your memory kept me alive
The thoughts of your smile
And what we wanted in life

Every night I was a goner
The nights were shortened
By the hope
Of our flames rekindling

Every night I was a goner
Thoughts of you
Kept me sane
Thoughts of you
Made me realize
I just wanted to stay

Every night I was a goner
Staring into the dark
Nights so silent
My only wish
If tomorrow comes
Then you shall
Be by my side

Ethnic Hatred; The Slow Poison

By: Our Daily Poetry Family

#ODP_Voices – Week 33

image

ODPoet: Paul Mes, Kenya.

My children gave me fine wine
Trying to impress me
Each with different taste
Claiming theirs was the best
Fighting to be supreme
Who will wear the crown
Who will have the pride on their chest
Oh how I wish they couldn’t insist
For me to pick a favorite
For now I see the chaos in their eyes
The blood lust,  survival for the fittest
All they want to see is death.

ODPoet: Gonzaga, Kenya.

So, here is a story about children. They all grew up wild and free like the daisies up the hills. They talked about cars and dreamt about houses together. They painted a picture of life without paying too much attention to detail. It was abstract. At the time if they stopped, they would sell the painting for thousands or even millions. They begun lessons from daddy and mommy. That life is not a vague image. That they had to start looking at what was close to them. The eyes of each other.

ODPoet: ☆Gael-Reggie, Kenya.

A greed and power driven people
Where did our love and ambition for a greater country go?
To better our land now a forgotten goal
A goal that had been greater than all of us
For all of us
Now we’re focused on ourselves only focused on getting ahead

The perspective of Me and Mine
Thinking only of
‘What’s in it for me
And a people mine?’
We’re focused on what to us is good
Focused not on the greater good
A depth of selfish need
Consumed deeply by greed
A lust greater than wanton pleasure
A power lust, innocent blood spilt for leisure.

Y.O.L.O. (You Only Live Once)

By: Our Daily Poetry Family

#ODP_Voices – Week 23

image

[This is our story about taking every opportunity that comes our way and exploiting it to the maximum. You only have one lifetime.]

ODPoet: Frida Salama
Country: Kenya

Run towards the wind
Try finding where it comes from
Or try to catch it
Inhale it, see if it can fill your tummy
Impossible it is but its fun
You only live once, celebrate.

Hold drops of rain in the palms
Slide in mud in bare feet
Listen to whispers of trees in rain, talk to them
Then stand up shout and scream your lungs out
Have fun, celebrate
You only live once

ODPoet: Esther Msiska
Country: Malawi

You only live once
Make the best of life
Be happy
And sad
To know all life experiences

Don’t miss out on life
Fall in love
Make love to last you a lifetime
Enjoy the scenery
The nature
People and everything around
Because at the end of the time
You Only Live Once.

ODPoet: Abu Bakr (White)
Country: Nigeria

Life is journey of no return
With scrabbled paths where some end at the point others had just begun
Today, it might be you laying tracks and tomorrow, the stars are what you can avoid to follow
Life is two faced, show to it that you’re the best of your kind to ever liveth
Live every moment of your life to the fullest
Caress and embrace every part of it because failure to do so might cause you beloved grief and sorrow
The golden rule to measure a happy life with is knowing that you only live once
This second, you own everything, the next, they’re all gone
Dreams get crashed, hopes vanish and your whole world feels done
At the end, you get to realise that you only live once.

ODPoet: Precious Maliwa
Country: Malawi

Let your pen write
What your brain thinks
Without fear or favor
Let your mouth sing
The song from your heart unrestrained
Without looking to the right or left
Allow your feet take you to the palace
Where you will not be served with garbage but fried cabbage
Let your soul feed on your kindness and courage
And if you are to love
On this journey
Love every mile you walk
Regardless of a broken smile
For You Only Live Once.

ODPoet: Delroy White
Country: Malawi

Y.O.L.O says so, right?

“You Only Live Once!”, they scream,
Which, in me, stirs a debate
A debate that gets me irate;
Is this acronym a motto or just an excuse?
For if the latter, then we should truly refuse!
Why have an excuse to allow such gross uncouth especially among our youth???

Why not use it to love today?
                      explore today?
                      taste today?
            authenticate today?
                    improve today?
                      BE today???
Why use it to EXTIRPATE today?

Why? Because Y.O.L.O says so right?

ODPoet: Rufus Kerry
Country: Kenya

Let’s party like there’s no tomorrow
Let’s be happy, today we forget all the sorrow
Everyone raise your voice and shout YOLO!

Its true You only live once
Live today, tomorrow you might not get a chance
Dance to every beat, make your body move with its trance
I’m in the mood to lose  control
Cz you only live once after all.

ODpoet: Isaac Praiz
Country: Nigeria

I ONLY LIVE ONCE (I.O.L.O)

Life is twin
The front yet the back
Time to plant, time to reap
Perfection yet the flaws
The reality we live
Tomorrow, only a mirage we see
The dreams we try to be,
they only may become
Life is one
So live it twice
Cheer in your sorrow
Despise your shame
Laugh at your tears
Pleasure in your pain
Flex every moment
And if they ask you why
Just holla I.O.L.O

ODpoet: MATTHEW (Gods Favourite Stream)
Country: Nigeria

Yielding to the call of life
Oh, my soul leaps for joy
Unutterable eagerness as my ride
                      BUT
Obfuscation is what welcomes me
Nattering with fortune, she says to me
“Love is the secret to live right”
Yoking with love is what I pledged

Life then turns a smiling face at me
Indeed, life is meant for merriment!
Vacation from heaven’s cottage
Enjoyment galore is my experience

Oh friends, lets dance to the melody of life, but a
Nasty feeling overrides our path
Coldness governs my body and soul, and my
Eyes open to a place unknown…

My soul groans for another ride
But a voice whispers from the
Chariot of zephyr, saying
“You Only Live Once”

ODPoet: Lisa Banda
Country: Malawi

Go new places,meet new faces.
Love till u got no more love to give,
Laugh loud till your tummy aches,
Be happy and in any storm, just breathe!
Be kind,don’t judge,don’t hold a grudge!
Grab every opportunity and seize it.

There is only one you,be the best you possibly can!
And after each day, never go to bed with regrets,
Wishing you’d done something that you didn’t!
Do all you can while you still can,
as long as it pleases God!
You only live once on planet earth!make the most of it!

ODPoet: Joy Munde
Country: Kenya

IT’S MY LIFE

Today was once a tomorrow,
And will soon be a yesterday,
And there are no days, only moments
But still I will be myself
I will give us joy and give us pain
I may hurt your soul while loving your soul
And still weep and laugh,
But in all I will live my humanness
I will live it all now…
It is my life

All that was and all that is
And all that will be and never be
I will still remain the me I am
At this point I give a shout to all,
That a fresh breeze whooshes past
A new surge of energy flow deep in my veins
Yes
I’m all up for self-love
Laugh more,laughed less
Hurt more,be hurt more
Love less,loved more
But live more…
I will live more…
As you only live once…
I only live once.

BLEEDING OUT!!!

By: Our Daily Poetry Family – Group Three

#ODP_Voices – Week 21

image

[They say the pain of a heartbreak is the worst., the kind so incomparable to opening a vein in your system. But what’s more painful is saying goodbye to the world you’ve always known; as you watch. Bleeding out to your weakest point. ODP once more tells a tale of a dying man in the hands of terrorists.]

Conducted & Compiled by Phill Ibsen, Kenya.

ODPoet: Cyburg
Country: Kenya

As I lay here on this tarmac,
as the boot stands witness,
to the owners unfair brutal attack,
all in the name of alshabab,
my soul leaves my body in distress,
sure to haunt their dreamland,
till the day their dying ear hears,
the angels Ballard serenading them to hell.

ODPoet: Phill Ibsen
Country: Kenya

If I die before I heal,
My words do feel,
I feel devastated,
Like a foe hated,
Beneath the boots there are blows,
Reminiscing of my younger years,
Letting go my old fears,
As I sink in captivity,
Waking up seems like an impossibility,
As I lie if I don’t wake,
My memories don’t take.

ODPoet: Joy Wainaina
Country: Kenya

Before am gone
Am sorry mama
I didn’t say I love you enough
Shay babe be strong
If only for our kids
Dylan my son
Take care of our family
Ashley my daughter
I love you.

ODPoet: Phillip Odhiambo
Country: Kenya

The rage boiling beneath,
Superfluously tearing me apart,
Tornado of pain,
Destroying me,
Weakening me,
Rain of tears clouding my eyes,
Thunder of blows breaking my dam,
Roars so loud,
As I bleed out.

ODPoet: Odhiambo Amada
Country: Kenya

Desperately, I cling on to dear life,
They spit at me, muttering unprintable curses at me,
my grip weakens,
unfulfilled
another victim of these vicious unrelenting savages,
will I be the last through this macabre,
Rigor mortis, the time lag runs out,
hazy,bleak, then suddenly,vanity

ODPoet: Isaac Praiz
Country: Nigeria

Blacking out of reality
As their blows fade out my identity
Feeling my gentle soul ebb
and my heart skip
As when Cyndi told me we couldn’t be
Though incomparable
Cos’ dumb I lay
Wishing this breath I take could last one more day
Fresh out of blood
Now ready for my ghostly spree.

ODPoet: Jante Joy
Country: Kenya

Yet there I lay
Coiled in a degratory manner
Neither befitting my old age nor manhood
My warm blood caressing the cold unfeeling ground
Slowly but steadily flowing
A picture of grime ingrained in it.

Dark Valentines

By: Our Daily Poetry Family – Group Two

#ODP_Voices – Week 21

image

[Love is sweet when you feel it in you and its sweetest when the one you love loves you with all they got. Love makes our days shine bright despite the weather at hand. But…love lost gives rise to a new feeling, perception and energy…Dark Valentine’s represents the side of lost love.]

Conducted & Compiled by Joy Munde, Kenya.

ODPoet: HP Kaleem.
Country: India

I LOST YOU TOO

As you came, you left me  too,
Had  only one heart, you  took it too,

Your eyes made me to love,
Gave tears to my eyes too,
I am destined to cry alone,
And drink pain in the crowd too,
Now nothing is left for me  in the world,
You were alone in the world,
I lost you too.

ODPoet: Joy Munde
Country: Kenya

YET TO COME

Guess its that time of the year
Where my heart and mind goes to when you had my ear
The time when you would call and I would say “yes dear”
The times we would walk or run as free as the deer
Yes…it is that time.

The memories of our past I still hold on to
Not because I miss us but just to remind you
Of every broken promise you said to my face
Of every tear I shed but that was  just a phase
And tell you of all that is yet to come.

Like a shadow my form shall always befall you
In her eyes be sure to see my face
In her smile do take note of the twitch I had
In her embrace be careful not to say my name
And maybe then shall you know of your atrocities
And maybe will have no more to hold on to.

ODPoet: Kip Nic
Country: Kenya

The day I have been waiting all my life,
Finally started with a bright light
Valentines day,
Lovers day.

A day of love, gifts, surprises and anything pertaining love and lovers
So I woke up with all my strength to go for my surprise.
As i took her surprise too
I met her as agreed looking awesome with a brighter smile than ever,I made her close her eyes,
Quickly do the necessary and now wait for my turn.

My turn came and was asked to have my eyes wide open
My heart beat faster,This was unusual.
Finaly my surprise arrived and…
I was really surprised when she introduced me to her HUSBAND.

I sat at the middle of the road
I watched them drive off
Her surprise which I had invested on all my days..New red Japan made scouter…

ODPoet: Morton Bonanza
Country: Malawi

In my hand a red rose
With joy in heart,
Ready to meet queen, Violet.
For a day long waited
Once a year
But 10 am as time proposed
Time grew  wings
Flying to 12 pm
No sign of her

“Love is magical”
Picking up my phone so quick
As the ring tone was on its pick
Alas! Alarm it was
Throwing my eyes to every corner
Only to see two birds flying
No doubt they were in love
While I was all alone
And the wind precipitated my loneliness
As it touched my body so cold
Whom shall I hold?
2 pm, roses totally tarnished
Its face succumbing voice of sun
I can’t give this?
Then anger rose!
Destroying the Rose
Love evaporating
Maybe it wasn’t my luck?
Or the Valentine gone dark?
With galore questions!
A whats app call
” Sorry dear,am breaking up its over”

———————————-
ODPoet: Effie Lara
Country: Kenya

He had called a week ago
And asked me to be his Valentine
I can’t remember what I said
But I’m pretty sure I gave him a chance
Everyday I felt beautiful
And everything I touched;
It felt red.

The day was inevitable
I had dressed to take their breath
Fears and tears took flight
Gloomy face and shrill voice found no space
Because it felt red.

Time passed so fast
Without favouring anyone
Despite being lover’s day
It’s noon! But no sign at all
No call,no text message
I was a broken hearted girl when I called
My guy had been to the Intensive Care Unit
After a fatal accident
But still,I call it red.

Silent hours and a cold day
That no voice found a way
Seemed so dark that even no one could ever find any light.

My mom was beside me
In a medicine scented room
Said I had collapsed a week ago.
I imagined I saw Leon’s smiling face
But this was an illusion
I was all red, my cladding spelt out red
But to him his clothes had been smeared red
He bled
And now he was fighting for his life
I realized red can mean life or love.

DARK VALENTINE

I have a girl with soft lips
Its too hard to write this piece..
My heart wants peace..
Because to her I cant dodge even if i had master keys..

It was the love month when she give me a call..
Telling me we may separate but too awful i know”
I waited a bit, for her to repeat
But she wasted her phone down, not wanting to spit.

I did not know which place to go
I remained staring like a tombolo
My valentine girl had finished me
Now am faded in love
Just like the end rally.

Butt she forgot about the house and she forget about the ring..
I remember everything..
I just taught her how to sing..
I remember the love right after the fight..
But I don’t know why she did not remember those nights.

Please my mom asked about you
My friends did too…
I know your new boy will be amazed to have u..
Still I suffer why you met me..
But I wish you never forget me.

Always to you I will remain your master..
But to me you are the abracadabra magic dancer..
My mom asked “can i call a doctor?”
No! I do not need a doctor…
I just want to let her to know am the doctrine..

Its the love month which I want to retreat..
Its a dark valentine and my heart has split..
I want someone to say “kary kary” as she called..
There is a black love until am faded.

The Valentine Frenzy

All alone
My day is moody
I try to take a walk
I pass by my favourite bar
Maybe i will meet him there
For some reason
I had hope…
There he was
All well dressed in red and black
Seated by the corner as he always did
As i walked towards him
I noticed a lad y
Seated by his side
The one he always adored
I had to walk away
I wasn’t his…

———————————-
ODPoet: Collins
Country: Kenya

Like a passing gust of wind
You passed me by left me high
Valentines,the day love comes
Changed into sorrow,mourning
Side by side, walking along the road
Suddenly lights, screeching of brakes
Your lifeless body lay there
Eyes open, pleading, begging
This love we shared
Even unto death, you carried
Darkest of days, dark valentines..

My Secret Admirer

#ODP_Voices – Week 20

[This is our story about love. Love makes the world go round so they say. Love is patient, love is kind…love sees no evil, love does no evil…love is pure bliss.
With the search of love most of us fail to see it even when it stares right down at us…some of us fail to embrace it due to fear even when we know we have seen the one. It’s in the spirit of cupids arrow we write to those whom we love but afraid to make the step…these are our letters to our secret admirers. Let love take control.]

ABSENT LOVE

If I should say my love in words
My lips would shiver as they do now
If I should say my love in poetic verses
My pen would overflow
If I should say my love in rhymes and rhythms
My heart might skip
At the expression of my passion
The way that I feel, my emotions
When I hold you, in my phantom
These feelings so intense
Caught in by the spell of your love though secret, like I’m insane
Yea, love is blind
But with you
I’d rather not regain my sight.

The Mysterious Muse __________________________________I’ve never been the type to say what I feel
So basically I keep everything inside
And with you it was no different
I want to tell you, believe me I’ve tried
But there’s part of me that just can’t take that chance
So I doubt that you’ll ever know
Which may be fine with you, but it’s hurting me
I choose not to show it though
I guess I’m your secret admirer
That name seems to fit just right
I don’t know what I like about you
But you’re on my mind, day and night
Maybe it’s the way you look
So sexy I can’t get enough
Or how you make me feel when you come around
I instantly forget all other stuff
Maybe it’s the way you say my name
Or maybe it’s the way you smile
Then again it might just be everything
Getting to know you seems worth my while
But I guess I’ll never know what it is
My true feelings I could never reveal to you
I’ll just admire you from a distance
I’m not sure what else there is to do

THE CUPID ARROW

It hit me so hard
Wound me
I fall
Desperate
Fatal.

The stab
Painful
Yet sweat
Magnetic
Intriguing.

The cupid arrow melt my heart
I was no longer me
But him who got into me
Driving me crazy.

So my heart beats more
My head thinks less
My senses are arrested
By cupids arrow.

HIDE AND SEEK

Secret,
Does your mind secretary in tandem with your game?
Hide and seek, under the umbrella of elephant’s hide.
Does it not it feel like ants
In your pants?
Does your butterflies
Not fly in your stomach anymore?
How do you hold all that yearning for me?
I can feel your eyes on me everywhere.
The apple’s shape symbolic to love figure.
Come out of the hiding.
And love me in luminous.
Secret admirer,
Break the mirror!

CAROLINE

Yesterday,past overhead sun
I saw you
Buying tomatoes
While stepping with toes
For it rained cats and dogs
You feared mud
A glance,In love I was mad
My throat paved way to saliva
Mouth trying to utter words
But fear’s gravitational force
Pulled down my lips
My heart only whispered;
“I admier you”

Today,at a wake of Sun
I realized
Neighbours daughter you are
But I was like Smokie
“Living next door to Alice”
Legs standing still as if caught with Ice
On distance
I admired
Hoping one day will get married
But a try to greet
Only yeald a retreat.

SECRET ADMIRER!!!

The most brightest light is that which erase a shadow,
The most despairing moments is when the dark blocks your light,
But here I am as I am,
Staring at my palms,
Looking so lost, confused,
And I look but I can’t find,
For I’m so blind,
Looking for ties to bind,
She’s always on my mind.

The best forms of love is that which is reciprocated,
From a far I stand, as I peek,
Holding my breath, my heart not to fall,
With thoughts as I wish for dreams,
I cannot be with her, what does it mean?
I love from a far,
My name she knows not,
But she makes a different in my life,
I like it here,
Where none my thoughts can’t here,
Where I can love without fear.

My Secret Admire…

Fate is not a destination I hope it will change
I carry the wounds in my heart like dog in a fence…
When should I tell her? Always my heart she rejects.
My secret admire do not fail I am a bet.

It is a spinning world and am in the centre in it…
I round it, walk it, look it but never talk to it…
My secret admire,I am used to it…
One day I will tell you…but wait a bit.

Sometimes I ask myself oooh may b am in a scene..
but I do not think as am not an actor as it seems..
My secret admire, I cant help but wait..
Am preparing for a day to eat our love cake..

One day my voice will speak
to my secret admire, the one I seek
I don want to tell her because I do not want to split..
Please if anybody sees her, remind her in my heart she has got a sit.

VOICELESS LOVE
Since I met you
I know my heart went wild
I know there are plenty But I love just one
I’ve always attempted to tell you
I love to say “I love you”
But I can’t find the strength
My mouth is shut
My heart is locked up
But I only hope my writings
Will speak n my behalf.

I am your secret admirer
Though we’re from different grounds
But I’ll forever follow you
Like a rainbow usually follows the rain
I wish I could vet a nickel piece of candy
Which is used to make dreams come true
Because I long for you hand
I know I’ll one day tell you of what I feel.
My love grows each time I see you
And my heart grows too
And. Know one day I’ll steal you the secret of my heart
Not until then,I’ll remain to be your secret admirer
..I’M GONE TO SEARCH FOR BEST LYRICS ….

Knock knock with a bunch
Ding dong of fragrance flowers
it’s a wonderful morning
A morning of inquisitive soul

I walk into my office desk
My computer blast with in love emotions
my sight caught by perfume i like
This engross my love

Why is it too weird…..
Am i blessed beyond the word love
Yes i love the way things happen
But how can i respond to this

I sense innocence in this admiration
It has engross my love wholeheartedly
But note and presents is not one happiness
Is love of admiration

I ADORE YOU

I.
I adore you,
I.
I am silent,
I.
I am afraid,
I.
I wish you knew.

I.
I wish I had the courage,
I.
I wish it was that simple,
I.
I know my eyes see,
I.
I know love is not blind.

I.
I shiver in my own heat,
I.
I curse myself each evening,
I.
I beat my chest each morning,
I.
I succumb to my own feelings.

I.
I admire you,
I.
I again will see you,
I.
I hope I shall tell you,
I.
I adore you.

VALENTINE REQUEST TO MY ADMIRE.

First time I met you, I fell for you…
I couldn’t stop smiling.
I wish I had the courage to tell that I like you.
Should I write a letter to you?
I doubt my ink…it may not be enough to spread all my feelings.

Hear me as I whisper ‘I love you’, in the midst of the night,
I love you…
As everyone coughs their words,
Mine are bleeding..
Bleeding from my
Heart to brain
Brain to body
Body to hand
Hand to pen
Pen to ink
Ink to paper
Paper to you….
As you crash my heart
I enjoy the pleasure of pain and love.

I wish the postman to deliver on time, as time sure kills me
I need to learn how to love.
Be my trainer and I’ll be your trainee
Will you love me?

I look at her face
Her lips lying on her face like sculptered marbles
Her nose high like the spirits of a mosque teacher
Her blush is natural
Natural that i see it greening my eye
Her eyes set apart well
That they blink at me
That they look into me
That they steal the love in me
I wish to see that face
Will you stand in front of me?
In my dreams
In my mornings
I want to see you
I want to face you
Your body on my body
Your body in my mind
I love the hips
So curved like an ant’s hill
So curved like the wasp’s waist
Your thighs i love to see
I love to feel
I love to see
In your dress
In your shorts
In your trouser
I see it curve
I see it bent
Its free of wrinkles
Its free of marks
Just a tattoo of me
Just a tattoo of love
I won’t dream losing you
I won’t leave you
I won’t
Just you I love
Just you my demi god
I love you
You turned me from a sleaze ball
From a sneeze ball
To a sleek boy
To a street joy
I love you for you.

LETTER TO MY ADMIRER

For the great reason you exist,
Whatever rank it may be in the list,
Take a stand as i do secret admirer,
To be great than all the previous explorers,
And notice the only boundary you make,
Is only in your mind so get up and determine your fate,

LET YOU AND I BE US

In silence I have watched him,
Watched him in the thicket
just to stare at him.
In my head I see us,
In reality he is the only one my eyes see.

Yesternight I saw us,
On his chest I laid.
On my hairs his hand rested,
I can still feel his heart beat against his chest,
Oooh what a melody!

In my dream I saw us by the grove,
Feet in the still waters.
In our silence, our hearts spoke,
In our silence I felt love.

Today I ask of you,
In your eyes I see it,
In your voice I can hear it,
In your every touch I can feel it.
But from your mouth you can’t say it.
You are to me as I am to you,
The secret admirer..my secret lover.

I love you as much as I love me,
You love me as much as the Lord permits.
Come let us be us.
Let you and I be us,
Let our love be a secret and all will see,
As am jealous about it but will talk of us even to the sea,
I love you.

Her voice as sweet music
That I may be listening all day

But I stared at her  in shock
For a moment I forgot how to breath

Beads of sweats rolled
Like I came out from a football pitch

Tongue tied
As words got choked in my buccal cavity

I stood between thoughts
Yes,No,Okay,Me too,what ?,Huh?

I beseech a ruby
Underneath water

All this happened in a dream
But when I meet her will I talk ?

THE UNREACHABLE SALAD.
***********************
In your darkness I grope
I grope for the love I already have.
She’s the hope with which I cope,
But it’s only by you served.
Don’t want you both, I’m not polygamous.
Don’t fling the broth, I’m not callous.
I beef you cause we can’t meet.
I respect you but we dare not greet.
I’d rather be your secretary
and keep this affair secret,
I’d rather become military
and make emotion’s block concrete.
I’d save the shortcut to your heart
but will delete your file,
It’s better we stay apart
than test this sweetened bile.
This breakfast table is Harvard,
and you’re the unreachable salad.

MY CRUSH

In the silence of the night
Deep in thought
Your face lights my dark world
Thoughts of you make me smile

Everyday I see you walk down the streets
Playing basketball
I think of what it would be like to call you mine

Can there ever be an us?
Do you feel the love?
Can you see my heart through my eyes?
Will there come a time you’ll want to die for me?
Will I ever get the courage to tell you what I deeply feel?

SECRET ADMIRER.

I have an idea of who you are;
The looks,
Body structure and stature,
The character and traits.
I have a vivid mental picture of who you are.

But there is one thing;
Do you really exist?
Or may be only in mind, my vision and dreams?!
Imaginations!

I will wait a little longer
Believing that you will come around.
Please come come quickly and relieve me from this heavy burden in my chest.

A bunch of love only kept for you.

SECRET ADMIRER
He has been my friend for so long
Being the pillar of my strength
Being my comforter
But without knowing
He occupied my heart
I fallen for him

There are times
When I would miss him
Miss him that it hurts
Missing him even when
He is just here besides me
I would watch him
talking, laughing, smiling
enjoying himself when I burn with love inside

He is my secret admirer
I secretly admire him
The feelings inside of me for him
Are so strong I keep hot inside

I just want to pour out
But words choked me I cannot
Even vomit a word
I am tortured by my feelings
I wish he can see my heart and release
Me in this prison.

FAR FROM REACH.

Deep in the night,
I seek you
Trying to define
Why my heart skips a beat
Whenever i see you.

But my pillow takes your place
In the cold,
I seek your warmth,
But the cold wind replaces you…

At daytime
I reach for your hand
I seek your eyes
But you turn your head away,
Torturing me back to my uncertainity.

A DARK VALENTINE’S

On Valentine’s day,
I burnt our love letters one by one
I watched as the lilac flame
Charred the paper’s edges
Eating up its way to its heart
And engulfing it whole
Smothering the fire
Of our love
With ashes.

I burnt each and every letter
Each and every empty word
I let the salty warm tears flow
And caress my cheeks
In overwhelming sadness

And I wished you could watch me
Scatter your ashes
Into the infinite sea
Against the sublime dusk
Making you
Just another weightless memory
On Valentine’s day.

SECRET CHARM

My blood boils at his sight
As i peep down the window
Just to catch a glimpse of him
Achill down my spine
Even in my lovers arms
It is him om my mind
Im afraid to approach him
What would i say?
His eyes, his lips speak to me
Arms longing for his embrace
I do not want to ruin this passion
For now, i love you silently.

SHE KNOWS NOT

Many a time have I bathed in the sea of her beauty
Nourished my body with a cream made from the sweat of her face,
She,
Knows not that she is a thief
Who stole my breaths with just a smile
She,
Knows not that calling me by my name and adding the flavour of “a brother,” assassinates my mind
She,
Knows not that I die every time she activates fluffy butter flies in stomachs of other men
With the aroma that comes with the splendor of her existence
She,
Knows not that I
Would want to be
A lover not a brother!
So tell me,
Should I let the pussycat out of the silky bag?

The Beauty of Africa

[This is our story about Mother Africa. From the wildebeest migration at Masai Mara, Kenya; The famous Victoria falls on the Zambezi river; The Okavango Delta in Botswana, The rich cultures of Nigeria to the Table Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa. Africa is blessed with immense beauty. We come together to shower praises to this beautiful land. This is Africa!]

~ My African Story ~

Africa, O Africa!
Many stories have been told
Many legends have been born
Little streams have drained into The Nile and The Congo
Big rivers have fed the Indian and the Atlantic
Diani Beach stretches gracefully beyond the horizon
The majestic Kilimanjaro towers over the entire continent
Our cultures are distinct and authentic

The Zulu
The Maasai
The Yoruba
The Tswana
The Shona
The Baganda

Without Africa, the world would cease to exist
Our resources are in abundance
Our diversity is our strength
Ebola, HIV and poverty give us a reason to fight
This is where struggle brings happiness
Diamonds are found in the dirt
Above all,
True beauty is found in our hearts
Giving hope with unlimited creativity.

God bless Africa.

SERENE AFRICA

To distant lands, from shore to shore
The beat that drums our heart, our call
Birds of every feather, together she lore
To her beauty, the warmth of her breath, come one come all
The freshness her fountains harness
Soothing natures cry
Her pleasure caress
Moaning to distant shores, they pry
In her color we glory
Stronger as one, we ebony

Flowing with milk and honey
Surely not from diaries and bees
With lands rich as green
Though not manured from cattle dung
We’re gentle, we’re black, we’re strong
Like Ebony from Sambisa jungle
We’re the giant of the nations that rest at
Africa’s trigger!!!

Mama Africa

It is your natural beauty
With no make up
That lured Westerners
To pay you a visit
And perambulate
With a tricky list?
Coming as missionaries
Saying; “dear don’t have worries,
Mine is to give hope
So dope”
But it wasn’t
Minerals gone!
Ask Mugabe
Who raped you mama?
Who took your virginity?
Leaving you in Vanity?
Mama Africa!
All in all you still beautiful
With you I feel full.

Oh! Queen Africa
You’re blessed with a Warm heart-Malawi
Kilimanjaro
Your hero
The crater of Ngorongoro
Nile river
In abundance of beauty
Well designed like a human head
As I touch you chin-South Africa
Reminds me of our first date
The day I was born
For you’re my love!

MOTHER AFRICA

From all corners and angles of you
Beauty is what describe you best
You have no competitor
You are number one when it comes to beauty
Africa the only land so rich
With both hidden and exposed riches
Though there are things that tries to ruin you
Floods earthquake’s
But am glad you are strong
As time goes
You maintain your strength and regain your weight
I love you mama Africa

All the children you gave birth to
Have their uniqueness
Which other continents can tell of
They are enriched with great culture
Minerals
And above all
Beautiful people called Africans
I love you mother Africa.

~ The Glow of the Mighty Africa ~

The sun shines throughout your world,
Rain falls on our seas and land,
A breeze worth feeling the wind,
All this is common to all
yet they feel better in Africa,
The  cold rain the refreshes,
even the dryness of stale humanity,
A blessing that we always love,
Even when the sun glows hot
and our lands can’t bear the deficiency
When famine and drought pull us apart
And claims lives of fellow kinsmen
It’s the African spirit of humanity,
Even in the weirdest of moments,
We come together for the purpose of attaining one goal
Proud of all this,
Our culture that is alive
in our hearts mind and thru our lifestyle,
From way back, Africa is a blessing,
Memories made from history,
Stay alive and fresh in their minds,
Love for each other mends all her worries
The only thing that keeps her alive,
The love that is never broken,
That even when you hurt her she’ll be all well
I keep her close to my heart,
Where she should always be,
I would never let her go,
I remember how she built me
from childhood til now,
I am proud of Africa.

BEAUTIFUL AFRICA

Standing on the edge
Of the cape in Capetown
As giant waves plummet against cliffs,
Where lions roar with diligence
And cheetahs race in competence
Doves break the dawn with graceful flying
And the whistle of the Khoisan
In the noon in Mara
A herd of galloping wildebeest
In a land full of ‘leso’ clad Maasai warriors; a spear
On the left,a sword on the right, a club on the arm right
Steady gaze into the hot noon sun and jingles hung from bored earlobes.
Squirmy eyes fixed to the west, a land of Arafat’s glow and pointy pyramids
Where sand dunes mould into dentures, and seifdunes into temples of Amun re
And the orthogonality defy the Nile;
Who bore Osiris…?
Maybe the gold of ouagodou
Carried by the Touregs
Galloping under the beautiful cocoa trees, that gave way to the loyal palms.
What happened to the humped camels,oh I remember
The queen of the asphalt-black Nilo-saharas; a true beauty of Africa
Rode past Sudan
And fetched a morsel of tropical honeycomb on Sellasie land
And in gaiety of a noble knight
Headed from Ethiopian highlands
And landed in the beauty of Africa, a place of equator-mountain,
That lay on a sacred province..my motherland
They called it Kirinyaga
On land of GEMA and visitors
Where we wove baskets
And gave stories,
Of the beautiful Africa.

EXQUISITE  AFRICA

From the fascinating Nile that’s ever on the run
Gracefully washing into the Mediterranean
To the pink carpet of flamingoes at L.Nakuru
The courageous wildebeest that will cross R.Mara yearly
Even when the danger of death is imminent
I have lost count of the eggs i have eaten
All courtesy of the hot springs at L.Bogoria
Mt Kilimanjaro tall and graceful as a swan
Ever cold with snow capped peaks
Watching the wildlife here is breathtaking
The rhino giraffe buffalo ostrich
Even the jungle king is all ours to keep
That is just about what my eyes have seen
Talk of what google allows me to see
I hear Victoria falls is a very romantic place
With the water gushing out and falling down with such majesty
The green surrounding will give you a picture of eden
Cape town’s table mountain am told is an extremely exquisite view
And its only in Africa
You’ll find a people so beautiful
A continent so rich
Gold diamond  silver oil we got it all
The sandy beaches and the warm climate is just about our best asset
Keeps our white brothers  swarming in yearly
Of course that feeds a number of us
I bet you will agree that everything that is phenomenal
Everything that is peachy and exquisite is all Africa.

The beauty of Africa
greater than that of America..
Our sand beaches beautiful than those in Costa Rica.
Amazing nativity from Cape blanc to Cape of Good hope
Mutual relationship and cohesion from Cape Verde to Cape Guadafui.
Endowed with natural features recognized worldwide, the 7th wonder of the world, the worlds longest river, the worlds largest fresh water lake.
Greatest talents we have world best marathoners, record holder in various fields are in Africa 800m,300m name them
World class footballers Drogba,Yaya , Wanyama etc..
Greatest leaders off all times Nelson Mandela Koffi Anan John Kufor Mwalimu nyerere the list is endles..

In you I take great pride,
So much beauty to behold,
Home of extinct wildlife,
Fresh water lakes full of life,
Mountains,valleys and plateaus,
From Africa, everything good springs.
I love Africa!

The beauty of Africa,
Lies not only in its landscape,
The beautiful sceneries and all.
Its true beauty stems from our hearts,
We are a united people.
Malawi, Africa’s heart, so warm,
I’m glad to call it home.

Oh God of all creation
Bless this our land and all the nations
With all this beauty we have that I will mention
In this few minutes of this session

Africa our beautiful land in which we live
With so much in it we all see
From the wild beasts in the Mara
To the deserts in the Sahara
The African culture
That the Maasai, Turkana have dearly natured

Our all time heroes
Who brought us from zero
The late Nelson Mandela
Not forgetting the champion Catherine Ndereba
Our own Mwalimu Nyerere
I’ll always remember the story about Luanda Magere
Pyramids all over Egypt
And all the resources all over it

I want run and feel the sun on my skin
I want to climb the mountains
To feel and touch the ice cold snow on them
I want to watch the blue rivers as they flow
I want to see them the endless oceans
I want to sing the songs of my people
To dance the magic of my culture
I want to eat what my ancestors invented
I want to drink the bitter bear they brew
I want to listen to the stories of the legends
As as i sit round the fire with my brothers
I want to see the animals they hunted
I want to go deep in the green forest
I want to fill my eyes with the beauty of nature
One only found in my motherland
I want to explore the richness in Africa
I want to learn the sweet culture of its people
I want their joy and warmth to fill me
So that i never want to leave this place
And when I speak of my homeland
I will stand up tall and say
Africa is blessed.

MY AFRICA

My motherland
My Africa
This is the joy I have for my land
A continent I pride for
Its shape!!
Its just like an art work
This keeps my cheeks dotting with a blush
Africa reminds me of a baby deer;
Its eyes are wide and open:like the heart of an African
Its cries are soft and gentle
That I once thought it Marvel
Marveling at the landscape
The mountain
They stand upright
No leaning , no pleading
The rivers ..the lakes
So fresh are its waters
That your thirst it thrusts away in a whisker
Then you think it ” magic water”
“All come to see me
All come to live here
All come to spend there time
Those that fly
Those that ride
Those that cycle
All are welcomed
To my motherland”

Why I love Africa
Not that I have not travelled away from Africa
Its a shoulder to lean on
Its a site to venture in
The rocks whisper adventure
The sand dunes whispers to camels
The cactus are so fat
Oh my motherland
You are my wonder
A wonder of my life
Talk of pangea
Talk of evolution
You’ll trace its route to Africa
Its a land of brains
“My child eat fish n you’ll be clever” -grandma’s words o still hear
All is fresh from Africa
We children of Africa
Its a pride we hold
Even a cold wind whipping through the atmosphere cant stop us from loving Africa
Even an African’s face aint like a man who pain spreads on his face like pins n needles
Noo no more pins for us
Its eternal loyalty
No more shock knocking air from our lungs to leave Africa.

To Our Fallen Soldiers

By: Our Daily Poetry Family

#ODP_Voices – Week 18

image

[This is our story about the unsung heroes who sacrifice themselves to safeguard our security, peace and stability. Our nations are faced with the threat of terrorism that comes in various forms. We are all affected either directly or indirectly. It’s in the face of such calamities that our brave and gallant soldiers rise. Today we pay tribute to our soldiers, the unsung heroes in our midst. We write as we see it, how they feel it, how we all view them…To the fallen soldiers we say a good fight you fought, to the ones we have we say ‘Thank You’.]

THE FORBIDDEN WARRIORS.

Rise up my captain,
Captain of the forbidden warrior.
Rise above defeat, defend the defeated nation.

I wish I could buy an armour,
I wish I could sharpen my spear,
I wish I could lead the rebellion,
Together we shall overcome neo colonialism.

Cast the die to defeat civil wars,
Africa union stop dividing Africa, your quotient is blood and terror.
I’m afraid to speak out,
Landlords are called terrorist.
Azania return to Africa
Our skins sweat blood.
Bullets and sirens demolish our peace and justice
Do not cry…
God shall answer.

TRUE HERO

Yes Sir!
Never objected
Selfless with a motive
My country, My land
Blood donor to our land
A soldier’s heart sacrificed
Where do we seek liberty?
War has taken its toll.

Hearts cry out
Not for you, our hero
But for us now the defenseless
A mother’s cry
Family’s loss
A nation’s hero
A bullet for a life
True heroes you are
Always in our hearts
Concrete legacy.

Its so sad we lost some of you guys
What they did to you men, that wasn’t so nice
They came and they killed them
Yes they did,I wonder if it was in Allah’s name
Our soldiers lost their lives
They left their kids together with their wives
Why has it come to this?
Why is it always like this?
Let’s stay together
Let’s love one another
Let’s stay like brothers and sisters forever…

We are all the same,we all humans
Can’t you see the colour of our blood,we’re not
mutants
Lost souls adding up to 63
Leaving all this sorrow upon we
Heey you killers, this is not good I mean can’t you
see
This is for our fallen soldiers we’re gonna miss
you
And for the swollen hearts were gonna get you:|:|:|:|

LETTER TO THE FALLEN

🔫🔫🔫🔫🔫🔫🔫

Into the sky
Into the night
Into the clouds
Into the sands
Into the war
You went
You never nagged
You took a place at the front
Our flag you waved
Our blood:our nation
O brother
You shot guns
Some into the air
Some onto walls
Some on invisible enemies
Not who knew
That you would be shot
That your gun will be untouched
That your kids would be fatherless
It really pains to fall
Falling off your life
Falling off the earth’s face
May the lord open His arms
To receive you
You who died as brothers who loved peace

CARRY ON

It’s easy to fight when everything’s right,
And you’re mad with the thrill and the glory;
It’s easy to cheer when victory’s near,
And wallow in fields that are gory.
It’s a different song when everything’s wrong,
When you’re feeling infernally mortal;
When it’s ten against one, and hope there is none,
Buckle up, little soldier, and chortle:
Carry on! Carry on!
There isn’t much punch in your blow
Carry on! Carry on!
Fight the good fight and be true;
Believe in your mission, greet life with a cheer;
There’s big work to do, and that’s why you are here.
Carry on! Carry on!
Let the world be the better for you;
And at last when you die, let this be your cry:
Carry on, my soul! Carry on!

As we fight, just sip vanilla,
We will come back after a victorious bid.

They never feared to venture out
And fight for our freedom.

When we had those sweetest dreams
They never slept
Just for the sake of us

Am in tears seeing the bodies of our fallen heroes
It pains to see that you are gone
But a million questions runs through my mind
Why this to our heroes who fought for us daily?

They died fighting for our freedom
Just to set us free from terrorists
In our hearts they’ll live forever…
Rest in peace our fallen heroes.

Now that you’re gone
There’s no fun with the crowds
We find ourselves crying
Even crying out loud
Because our world simply is still…
You brought us peace
You brightened up our land
You we’re and will always be
Precious roses
That opened in the rain
That struggled in the sun
You are our stars
Which will forever twinkle in our eyes
Our worlds were different
Your world made of harsh conditions
That our world will never fit in.
We lost our sunshine
We lost a beautiful rainbow
We lost our morning dews
Ever since we lost you…

You went home to those lonely hemas
In which you had no one to cry to
No one to say goodbye to
No one to tell your challenges to
No one to sigh to…
ONLY GOD KNOWS YOUR FATE…
We shall have our hearts recall,
In every step we make
Because you went on giving yourselves away
So that others could have their lives on…

THE BASE

‘Two base-ten do you copy’
‘Roger one over’
‘To the base immediately over’
‘Lieutenant arm up, Roger..over and out’
And the soldier clipped his army pack
The high army truck, bowled and heavy canvassed helmets, jungle uniform, guns strapped
The smell of gun powder,
Hard-set jaws, red-alert eyes
Vein-strewn arms
And the soldier saluted
Her mother in good bye
°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°”’
The lieutenant was alert
On this night
When the world crumbled
In explosion and attack
Ceasefire muted
The cold silent night
But it happened so fast
And the brass bullet
Shred his pal’s skull
And found his chest
And as blankness engulfed
A fellow soldier screamed by
‘Stay awake soldier’
‘But life feel at limbo’
Then in the last gulp of life
Whispered in triumph
‘Tell my mama,I did my best’
And closed his eyes,
A lone tear streaming down
The war-torn face.
Rest in peace soldier

Hope you know you’re highly appreciated
Each day you spend in camps
Each time you eat cold food
In our hearts we hold you highly
In our minds we think of you daily
We say it as often as we would like
But each time you hold that gun
My son calls you a brave hero
Each time you fight to protect us
We smile to say we are proud of you
For not every one can do what you do
But just because you have the courage
Know your the pride of our country
And for every fallen soldier out there
Your life will forever be remembered
Your patriotism will be admired by many
We may not sing songs for you
But we tell our kids of your bravery
And we forever pray to God
That your reward be made great
And your sacrifice never go in vain
For each life that you saved
May He grant more glory to your crown
And for the peace we enjoy
May He grant more to your family

THEY TOOK OUR FALL.
“Tribute To Kenya Fallen Soldiers”

Like horses at the scent of war
With heads high they forward match
Darting through deserts, raging storms
The scorching sun they never mind
To the threat of our glory
With fury they boldly rise
To pay the prize like Christ
For our souls, they gory lie
How are the mighty fallen
How our flags lowly fly
How from our fort our joy stolen
Tell it not to the passerby
Winds from Dry island blew
Leaves from this Ebony dropped
Our weeping might endure for a night
But in our heart your souls forever live.

EVEN AT THE SIGHT OF DEATH

Throughout the day,
Bullets flying in air,
Bombs blown
Like play toys
You still braved.

Like a lion reaching for its prey,
Not scared of its foe,
Never did you put your heads down
Even amidst the wild fires.

At the face of death,
Your faces were up
Looking unto the enemy
Protecting the people
And yet,
Death never spared you…
And there you died
Serving people…

I’m a soldier poet
My pen is my rifle
I shoot with my ink
I retrace in a wink
I torment my tormentors
I suffered in the battle field
With oxymorons who claimed to be boss

I’m a soldier poet
I defend my nation in the quest
Fighting with net
Book and ink
My excruciating pain
Led to their restrain
I punctured their silence
Even when I know it going to be odd
Many of my colleges battling for peace
Peace for our nation

ONE FOR ALL

Forward march!
Step by step down the dusty paths,
Sweat to sweat under the scorching son,
Puddle over another puddle in the rain,
A toss here a turn there in the wild bush,
My country’s honour to protect.

Rat_a_tat!!
Bullets ring from all sides,
Boom!! Blast!!
Grenades go off over our heads.
The kind of music we get used to,
Casualties here fatalities there,
But still,
My country’s honour we will protect.

In our president’s name we swear,
Our families at heart they stay,
My country men in mind as always,
A salute for accepting the mission…
On our honour we promise,
The enemy within and without to rid,
My country’s honour to protect.

Forward march soldiers,Our full armour already in place,
To keep all safe,
One for all in the bush we are,
God for us all we pray!
My country’s honour I will always protect.

~ The Battlefield ~

We charged towards the enemies
Our guns ready to defend our nation
We had prepared for months
We knew every hide out in the terrorist zone
We were many and we were unified
We clashed with the terrorists for hours
Gunshots were deafening
Grenades raised storms of dust.

I could hear cries of pain all around me
I was blinded by dust but I kept shooting
Suddenly, it felt like I was all alone
Everyone around me had been killed
It felt like an eternity
I thought I had survived it
I looked at my chest and that’s when I realized it
My sternum had been sprayed with bullets
I looked up and the last thing I saw was a terrorist’s gun to my face
The last thing I heard was a gunshot and a thump on my forehead
The last thing I felt was a fading pain in my skull
Faces of my loved ones flashed in my mind
Then white light
Finally at peace
In the battlefield.

RIP to our lost KDF soldiers.

BENEATH THAT HELMET.

Beneath that cave aloft their heads?
Of untold bravery, withheld pain, strained breaths.
You were fell, that utter now lifeless.
Hail your spirit, one that told of your love for peace endless.

Tears, fear all near as they fill us with despair,
We stare so far, you’ll never return.
Fate turned ugly unto your absence,
Hail your spirit, we’ll fight from where you left.
I’m sure we’ll know peace just at the golden olden days.
We’ll fight.

You departed too soon to glance at victory,
Martyrs of peace, your fight will forever live.
We shall fight as dirges we sing,
In a foreign land you were mercilessly slit.
Hail your braveness for it still lives in us,
we’ll liberate the freedom you wanted to give.
Echoes of pain, yet we’ll still paint your memories.

Too soon, now I know beneath that helmet.
You wanted peace beyond vague silence.
Rest in peace soldiers.

Everyday you live is another blessing from above.
Waking up to the possibility of not seeing the end of the day

You learnt to live with pain, with loss
For since you gave up your lives to serve the nation your days are filled with loss and pain.

You see your friends breathe their last,
Having nothing to do to save them,
The thought of what their families will go through taunts you
Yet knowing your family might go through the same
But praying hard you conquer so you see them again.

Your life is no more yours
Your happiness lies in the safety of the country
Guns are now your best friends
Family,
You only see them in the photos in your wallets

For our fallen heroes,
Your memories in us will live
For because of your sacrifice we are safe
To those who remain
In our prayers forever you’ll be.

Our heroes you are
And role models forever be
Your victory is our victory
Your loss our loss
And  your pain we’ll also share.

We lie in the bush while you lie on your beds…
We sleep beside our guns while you sleep beside your wives…
You sleep in your house while we sleep in hemas…
You wear nice caps while we wear heavy helmets…
You wear designer vests while we wear Iron vests…
In the morning you are awoken by sweet alarm tones while we are woken up by horrible sound of bombs and grenades…
You move around town in range rovers and latest cars but we move in tanks and buffaloes…
We stay awake just for you to sleep…
We kill for you to live…
We stand side by side with death itself so that the future of your generation can be assured…
We sacrifice our today for your tomorrow…

We are strong at heart, great in action, committed to our course and loyal to our nation…
We are soldiers!!!
With great zeal and gallantry….
We fight relentlessly to win yet we continue to fight to conquer insurgency and terrorism….
Just pray for us over here…
To conquer in victory so that we can return to our family,
Friends and loved ones…
To the fallen heroes…
We pray they continue to live on…While we fight to to the end in victory…
IN JESUS NAME…
Please PRAY, PRAY, PRAY for US!!
